Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy Communication, has addressed reactions that followed his recent interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan, noting that the discussion has generated widespread debate on social media.
Bwala made the remarks in a post on his handle on X on Saturday, March 7, 2026, where he reflected on the reactions that have trailed the interview over the past day.
According to him, the interview sparked extensive conversations online, with users expressing a range of opinions about the exchange.
While acknowledging the differing views, the presidential aide explained that engaging in public discussions about government policies and actions is part of his official responsibilities.
Reflecting on the interview, he expressed reservations about some aspects of the discussion, stating: “I refused to swallow the pill of Mehdi’s “opposition research-style journalism,” and even today, if you carefully compare what he read as quotes from organisations and groups, you will see that many were inaccurate and some were outright fake news. But I will leave that for another day.”
Bwala noted that when he accepted the role of Special Adviser, he understood the expectations that come with representing and communicating the administration’s policies to the public.
He said the position requires openness to scrutiny and a willingness to participate in conversations that address issues concerning governance, security, and the economy.
