SHOCKING: Zelensky Offers Trump Technology to Shoot Down Iran Shahed Drones that Could Save US Millions

According to a report by The Independent on Friday, March 6, 2026, as Iran continues to deploy Shahed suicide drones across the Middle East in response to ongoing US-Israeli military strikes, the financial and logistical burden of intercepting them has grown significantly.

Countries such as the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar rely on advanced US-made air defense systems to shoot down these low-cost, mass-produced drones, spending millions of dollars per interception.

In a bid to ease the strain on US allies, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has offered to provide Middle Eastern nations with Kyiv’s drone defense expertise and low-cost drone interceptors. Ukraine has honed its technology during nightly attacks by Russian Shahed-type drones, developing homegrown interceptors that cost between $2,000 and $5,000 dramatically cheaper than the $4 million missiles typically used by US Patriot systems to destroy drones valued at around $30,000.

“There is a surge in interest in the Ukrainian drone interceptors, which can intercept the Shahed for a very low cost,” a Ukrainian official told the Financial Times. Zelensky confirmed the offer on X on Thursday, stating that he had directed officials to “provide the necessary means and ensure the presence of Ukrainian specialists” to guarantee security in the region.

The Ukrainian interceptors are designed to match or exceed the capabilities of Shahed drones, which can fly at speeds of up to 330 km/h and reach high altitudes with human-piloted precision. Serhii Beskrestnov, a Ukrainian military consultant, explained that an interceptor must “be faster than Shahed, find it, catch it, and destroy it,” highlighting the technical sophistication of the system.

Zelensky has been in contact with leaders in the Middle East, including Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani of Qatar and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, to discuss the deployment of Ukraine’s anti-drone technology. However, he emphasized that such cooperation must not compromise Ukraine’s own defense capabilities.

The Ukrainian president suggested that an exchange of technology could be mutually beneficial. “Regarding weapons: we ourselves are at war. We have a shortage of PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles,” Zelensky said. He proposed that the provision of drone interceptors to US allies could be part of an arrangement in which Ukraine receives additional Patriot system missiles to address its deficit.
