SPORT: “It Was Not Easy, I Admit” — EPL Tougher Than Expected, Says Super Eagles Striker

Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare has admitted that the English Premier League is tougher than he expected.

According to a report by The Punch on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the Nigerian striker completed a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. last summer from Belgian side K.R.C. Genk, following an impressive campaign in Belgium.

However, the transition to English football has come with significant challenges both personally and collectively.

Wolves have endured a difficult season, currently rooted to the bottom of the table with just 13 points from 29 matches, managing only two victories so far.

The club’s struggle for survival has added further pressure on the squad as they battle to avoid relegation.

Speaking to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad, Arokodare admitted the intensity of the English top flight caught him off guard.

“The two leagues are comparable: physically demanding, intense, and fast,” he said.

“But in the Premier League, you have to double your efforts. It was not easy, I admit. My first matches were a struggle. It was even harder than I expected.”

The 23-year-old noted that while he has gradually improved, he believes there is still room for growth in his performances.

“I have made progress since then, but I am not where I want to be yet.”

“I knew I was not coming here on holiday, that I’d have to fight. So not much has changed in that respect. I was fighting with Genk, and now I am fighting with Wolves — then for the title, now to stay up in the league,” he added.

Arokodare also admitted that the sharp contrast in his goal return has been frustrating.

After finishing as top scorer last season in Belgium, he has found the net only twice in 25 Premier League appearances ahead of Tuesday night’s clash with Liverpool F.C.

Despite the setbacks, the Super Eagles striker remains determined to learn from the experience and emerge stronger as he continues to adjust to one of the most competitive leagues in world football.
