According to a report by Punch News on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, residents of Agbonchia community in the Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State were left shocked on Tuesday after an unidentified man reportedly collapsed and died while jogging.
The incident was said to have happened early in the morning along a major road in the community. A video obtained by PUNCH Metro on X showed the man lying motionless on the ground as a passerby called for help and urged anyone who could recognize him to inform his family.
In the video, a voice explained that the man had been jogging before he suddenly collapsed and showed no signs of life. The footage revealed blood stains on his face as he lay still on the road. Some residents at the scene stated that the incident had occurred about five minutes before people began gathering around him.
The individual recording the video appealed to the public to urgently contact the man’s relatives if he was recognized, insisting that he appeared lifeless.
At the time the report was filed, the identity of the deceased had not been confirmed, and the cause of his sudden death was still unknown. Attempts to get a response from the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, were not successful.
In a similar case reported by PUNCH Metro in 2019, another unidentified man reportedly collapsed and died while jogging along WEMCO Road in the Ogba area of Lagos. The incident was suspected to have been caused by cardiac arrest despite efforts by bystanders to assist him.
