According to a report by Vanguard on Friday, April 3, 2026, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a strong political force, capable of presenting candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Friday, Wike stressed that the party’s focus goes beyond merely fielding candidates; it is about strengthening internal cohesion and ensuring the party is strategically positioned to compete effectively across the country.

Wike confirmed that the PDP intends to present candidates for positions ranging from the presidency to local government posts.
He highlighted that careful planning and organization within the party are crucial for electoral success, noting that a fragmented party cannot achieve meaningful results at the polls.
According to him, rebuilding and maintaining party structures, addressing grievances among members, and fostering a shared vision are key steps toward ensuring that the PDP can remain competitive in the upcoming elections.

During the media chat, Wike also defended President Bola Tinubu in relation to criticisms over his recent visit to Plateau State following the Palm Sunday killings.
Some commentators had questioned why the president did not spend the night in Jos, suggesting a lack of empathy for the victims.
Wike dismissed these narratives, arguing that such commentaries reduce the presidency to trivial matters and fail to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation.
He highlighted that the president’s visit itself was an important gesture of concern and that true leadership involves addressing security challenges while balancing national responsibilities.
Addressing the broader issue of insecurity, Wike acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by banditry and terrorism in Nigeria.
He stressed that President Tinubu is committed to addressing these threats and has taken steps to reduce their impact.
Wike noted that combating terrorism is a complex task, requiring sustained effort and vigilance, as terrorists often operate covertly and unpredictably.
He emphasized that the administration is actively working to minimize insecurity and protect citizens, highlighting the importance of understanding the difficulties inherent in tackling organized criminal and terrorist networks.
He said, “What is more important is the President is concerned. What has he done to see that this banditry and insecurity are put to a stop? And nobody in this country can say that Mr President is not doing all he can to see that this insecurity is reduced to a minimum level. What people must know, all over the world, fighting terrorism is not an easy thing. You don’t know them. A terrorist can be among you here and you wouldn’t know.”
