According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, March 15, 2026, Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, on Sunday revealed that he had contemplated resigning from his position as the state’s governor, but the persistent prayers of his wife, Nonye, alongside the support of Ndi Anambra, encouraged him to remain in office.
He explained that prior to assuming office during his first term, there were uncertainties about how events would unfold.
He assured his wife at the time that everything would turn out well and vowed to remain committed and steadfast in all aspects of governance and administrative duties.
Soludo made these remarks while addressing a gathering of guests, party officials, support groups, clergy, and Ndi Anambra at an interdenominational church service.
The event was held at the International Convention Centre in Awka to express gratitude to God for the completion of his first four-year term and to mark the forthcoming inauguration of his second term scheduled for Tuesday.
He emphasized the significance of divine guidance in his political journey and highlighted the role that faith and communal support played in sustaining him through challenging periods.
The governor described his tenure as one requiring uncommon courage, patience, and commitment to the people of Anambra State.
During the service, he acknowledged the prayers and encouragement that came from his immediate family and the wider community.
He stressed that the collective support from both his wife and Ndi Anambra was instrumental in helping him overcome moments of doubt and difficulty during his tenure.
Soludo further recounted that when he first contested for the governorship, he sought God’s intervention to enable him to serve and positively impact the state.
He expressed appreciation for the strength and determination that were granted to him to carry out his responsibilities effectively.
The governor also reflected on the challenges encountered during his initial term, noting that despite moments of uncertainty, the unwavering backing from his family and citizens provided him with the fortitude to continue his work without wavering.
He highlighted that the interdenominational service was a significant occasion to publicly acknowledge the spiritual and moral support that underpinned his administration, it served as a moment to give thanks for the successes achieved and to seek continued guidance for the future.
The gathering at the International Convention Centre in Awka featured representatives from various sectors, all present to celebrate the accomplishments of Soludo’s first term and to participate in prayers for the upcoming inauguration.
The atmosphere was one of gratitude, reflection, and anticipation of continued service to the people of Anambra State.
Soludo concluded the service with a heartfelt message: “We have come to say thank you to God for the guidance. When I was contesting for the office as governor, I asked God to use me to bless this state… We have come here with gratitude to say, God, thank you for giving the uncommon courage.”
