The general manager of the defunct Nigeria National League side Bananawa FC believes Amokachi has the ability to steer Nigeria to bigger things.

The role of Nigeria coach has been vacant since Jose Peseiro stepped away following the expiration of his contract at the end of February.

The Portuguese manager led the side to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024), where they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of hosts Ivory Coast.

Yachi backs Amokachi to be next Nigeria coach

Peseiro’s departure has led to many coaches being linked to the vacant Nigeria coach job, although there’s been a high clamour for an indigenous coach to be hired.

Yachi believes Amokachi, who won the AFCON as a player and also as an assistant coach of Nigeria, is the right man to succeed Peseiro.

The football administrator also advocated for a backroom staff made up of ex-players to be employed to assist Amokachi if he’s handed the job as Nigeria coach.

“Now that Peseiro has left, I am calling on the NFF to give the job to Daniel Amokachi, to be assisted by Emmanuel Amuneke, Finidi George, and Vincent Enyeama,” Yachi said, as quoted by Dailytrust.

“They should be given five years to rebuild the Super Eagles. Amokachi has what it takes to lead the team. He was there when Nigeria won the AFCON in 2013.

“If these names I have mentioned agree to work together, they will produce a formidable squad that would go on to win laurels for Nigeria.”

Amokachi played 44 times for Nigeria between 1990 and 1999, scoring 13 goals. He also won the AFCON in 1994 and Olympic gold in 1996<<<READ FULL ARTICLE>>>
