It would be recalled that Folorunsho said, some years ago, that she accords her husband the utmost respect. According to her, she still washes his underwear, cloths, and so on.

Thus when the news of their separation broke in public space, setting social media agog, not a few people betrayed astonishment and horror at watching what they hitherto imagined to be a perfect union of about 46 years fall apart.
What many people do not know was that the cracks that blew into their eventual separation began several years ago over trivial and major squabbles. As the years progressed, those cracks widened into an irredeemable gorge causing their complete estrangement from each other.

The vessel of marital discord berthed on the shore of their love about six years ago but escalated in recent times, a development which prompted both husband and wife to opt for separation.

According to inside sources and friends of the Alakijas, efforts have been made in recent months to reconcile them, but things seemed to have completely gone awry between them.

Findings revealed that both husband and wife often allegedly have heated disagreements on subject matters that could have been amicably resolved if properly managed. For instance, sources said there was an incident at the Ikoyi Club Lagos, a few years back, which tended to cast a seeming picture of inappropriate action about one of them, which did not go down well with the other.

Media reports also suggest that Alakija, who is regarded as Nigeria’s richest woman with an oil bloc to her credit, had been engaged in a series of heated arguments with her husband in recent times, prompting both sides to embrace separation.

The frequent disagreements reportedly made Modupe to pack out of their mansion at highbrow Ikoyi, Lagos.

The decision by Modupe to move out of the palatial home stemmed from what many family members described his wife’s request that she be allowed to have her maximum privacy.

But contrary to widespread belief that Folorunso had always been more privileged in the marriage because she married a pauper, her husband, Modupe, is also a billionaire.

While Folorunso is the founder and Vice Chairman of FAMFA Oil Limited, and has made a name for herself as a successful businesswoman, her husband, Modupe, is the Chairman of FAMFA oil.
