Recall that SP Bako Angbashim, the former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada East was gruesomely murdered on September 8, 2023 by a dreaded cult group led by 2baba, who after killing the DPO dismembered his lifeless body while chanting cult slogans suggesting invincibility, an action that was captured in an amateur video that circulated on social media.

The fearless senior Police officer was ambushed and killed by his assailants while conducting a raid on some criminal hideouts in Odiemude forest, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the State.

Condemning the development, Governor Fubara placed a N100 million bounty on the cult kingpin and his gang on September 9, 2023 during an emergency State Security Council meeting, a day after SP Bako was killed.

The Rivers State Police Command after months of investigation, trailed the cop killer and his gang their new hideout in Ebrass forest, Ahoada West LGA, where he was gunned down in a joint operation, although his gang members made a way with the body of their leader and buried it in a hidden shallow grave, where the police following intelligence uncovered weeks later and exhumed the body.

The youths’ appeal to the Governor was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the youth body, Comrade Hector Ekeakita on Wednesday, titled “An Appeal to Rivers State Governor to Redeem N100 million bounty placed on infamous gang leader, David Gift aka 2Baba responsible for the death of Ahoada DPO, SP Bako Angbashim.”

The youths said they were worried that the Rivers State Governor had yet to make any pronouncement in redeeming the bounty placed he placed on 2baba, more than three weeks after his corpse was discovered and exhumed by the Police in the Ebrass forest.

They also called on the Governor to provide adequate succour to the next of kin and immediate family members of late SP Angbashim in recognition and appreciation of his immense contributions in crime fighting and daring policing in the state.

The statement reads in part, “While commending the Governor for his support to the Police and other security agencies in bringing down the cult leader, David Gift and his unwavering commitment to ensure lasting peace in Ahoada East LGA, it is our view that His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara should redeem the pledge in record time so that it will not be perceived by observers as one of those unfulfilled campaign promises made by some Politicians who lack integrity to win the heart of electorates when seeking elective positions.
