Medvedev sends condolences to victims of ‘terrorist attack’

While the nature of the Moscow concert hall attack has still not been confirmed, the deputy head of the Russian security council has appeared to confirm it was a terrorist incident.

Dmitry Medvedev said he sent his sincere condolences to the families of those killed in the “terrorist attack”.

“Terrorists understand only retaliatory terror. No trials or investigations will help if force is not countered by force, and deaths by total executions of terrorists and repressions against their families. World experience,” he said.

He warned that if Ukraine is proven to be behind the shooting, which has reportedly left 40 people dead and more than 100 wounded, then they will be “mercilessly destroyed”.

“If it is established that these are terrorists of the Kyiv regime, it is impossible to deal with them and their ideological inspirers differently,” he added.

“All of them must be found and mercilessly destroyed as terrorists. Including officials of the state that committed such atrocity.”

He had been behind bars since January 2021 after returning to Russia from Germany, where he had been recovering from nerve-agent poisoning that he blamed on the Kremlin.

The cause of his death has been described by officials as due to natural causes – but Ms Navalnaya has blamed Mr Putin.
