BREAKING: Second flyover project misplaced priority, invest in agriculture to tackle hunger, poverty in Ekiti – Falegan tells Oyebanji

The Founder of Opeyemi David Falegan Foundation (ODF)has said the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, is insensitive to the plights of the people of the state in the face of the current economic hardship, hence embarking on the construction of a second flyover in Ado-Ekiti, capital of the state.<<<<READ  FULL CONTENT

Falegan, who said the ongoing bridge construction is a misplaced priority and a white elephant project that will not have direct benefit on the people, suggested that the governor could have channelled the funds into mechanised farming to tackle hunger and poverty in the land.

Falegan made the remarks in a statement he personally signed and provided to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday. where he said the flyover is not necessary for now but another way to embezzle the state’s funds.

He said, “spending billions of naira on such a project in this economic hardship is quite insensitive , when the funds could be channelled into sustainable agricultural mechanisation ( mechanised farming) which will contribute significantly to the development of value chains and food systems in Ekiti state, which has the potential to render post harvest, processing and marketing activities within and even outside the state, which would reduce poverty and achieve food security while improving people’s livelihoods and also creating employment for our people.”

Falegan added, “a second flyover now is selfishness, insincerity, callousness and deceptive. Pretending to love the people by embarking on white elephant project that has no direct benefit to people’s welfare, and economic value of the state but only Governor’s pocket.

” This is unreasonable and also a misplaced priority which shows that the Governor is not connecting with his people to know where the shoes pinch them.

“It shows that the Governor does not know the needs of the people.
It is nothing but a selfish agenda, and another conduit pipe set to siphon off Ekiti people’s fund.”

According to him, most of the roads in the state are in deplorable condition and have become death traps for users, while farmers experience difficulty transporting their produce from the villages to towns and markets, saying government could use some of the funds to repair the roads to boost agriculture in the state.

” Ekiti roads have become death traps lately, towns and villages are poorly connected, some funds could be allocated for the internal roads linking all towns together, repairing the roads would boost our agricultural value chain.
