At only 28 years old, Carol has gone through a lot of pain. She is suffering from two types of cancer: cervical and blood cancer. The doctors recently told her that cancer has touched her liver too. According to her, she was born and raised in Limuru. Her grandmother took care of her while young. When she was mature enough to start her own family, she got married at 20 years old. Within no time, she conceived and gave birth to her first child.
After 2 years, she conceived again, but when she was seven months pregnant, her water broke. She had to undergo an emergency c-section, but her child didn’t survive. When she went back to her husband, he didn’t give her time to heal, and after a month, she conceived again. She developed complications at 5 months and went to the hospital. The scan was conducted, and the doctors confirmed that she was carrying triplets who had died in her womb.
A c-section was done, and she went back home. According to her, she had suffered from marital rape because her husband was not giving her time to heal. When she was undergoing surgery, the doctors confirmed she had a growth on her cervix. After a test was conducted, it was confirmed she was suffering from cervical cancer.
She was transferred to Kenyatta hospital where she was undergoing treatment. After two sessions of chemo, the doctors confirmed that she was suffering from blood cancer, and the cancer had started spreading in her liver. Carol said that the pain she goes through is unbearable when alone because her husband left her for their house help and took away her kids.
One of the doctors introduced her to a group that helps people with chronic diseases like cancer. She now makes mats and sells them to get food, but it is not enough because she uses a packet of adult diapers and pain killers.
