This is with particular reference with nurses at Kakushi Rural health Centre, Mkushi District, located in Central Province of Zambia.

In the Chief Shaibila’s area there, nurses are living in fear of wizards having sexual encounters with them while they are asleep, report in the local media has indicated.

Whereas some people have tended to take the assertion with a pinch of salt, the Mkushi District Commissioner, Jonathan Kapungwe says he has received reports from female nurses to the effect.

He said the nurses alleged suspected wizards are having sex with them in their sleep at night.

Speaking at a community meeting at Kakushi Primary School in Mkushi District, Kapungwe dissuaded those in the act to desist.

He cautioned residents in the area against harassing officers who he said were sent to take development through provision of healthcare services.

“Government workers are agents of development but if you continue to harass them in this manner I’m hearing, it means you don’t want development,” he said.

Communities he added, should instead accept civil servants being deployed to their areas rather than harassing them through witchcraft.

Also lending her voice, Mkushi Education Standards Officer (ESO), Maureen Kolomwe advised parents against marrying off their children at a tender age.

“Children should be allowed to complete their secondary education so that they can contribute effectively to the development of the district and the nation at large,” she said.

According to an independent report in the MakanDay , through extensive interviews with a number of individuals, including victims, former practitioners of witchcraft, it has been established that the belief in the power of witchcraft persists in many parts of Eastern Province, alongside a profound faith in the capabilities of witchdoctors.

“Stories of civil servants fleeing public institutions due to witchcraft victimisation and individuals seeking the services of witchdoctors in hopes of sudden wealth are not uncommon”, the report said in part. .

Ms Kolomwe also called upon key stakeholders to step up efforts that will help prevent defilement, early pregnancies and child marriages and also ensure that appropriate action is taken against the perpetrators.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>
