Expressing concern over the timing of increasing Value Added Tax (VAT), stamp duty, and introducing a cybersecurity levy, Primate Ayodele emphasized that such measures are inappropriate amidst Nigeria’s ongoing economic struggles, which have plunged ordinary citizens into hardship.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele urged the government to reevaluate its policies, stressing the urgent need for people-centric initiatives. He highlighted the prevailing hardship in the country and emphasized the necessity for the government to prioritize improving the livelihoods of Nigerians.

“The decision to increase VAT, stamp duty, and introduce a cybersecurity levy at this juncture is ill-advised. It is imperative for the government to thoroughly reassess its policies. These measures will only exacerbate the suffering of the people, leading to soaring prices of essential commodities and further economic strain,” Primate Ayodele remarked.

Furthermore, Primate Ayodele called upon the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to meticulously examine policies that could potentially pose future challenges for the government and impact Nigerian banks adversely. He warned that the current stringent policies would adversely affect all segments of society.

“The CBN governor must carefully scrutinize these policies to anticipate future challenges for the government. They must be rigorously reviewed, as their implications will extend to banking institutions. Persisting with these policies will only compound the difficulties faced by Nigerians,” Primate Ayodele asserted.
