The House of Representatives member for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State, Oluwole Oke, has said the 2025 budget submitted by President Bola Tinubu was grossly inadequate.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, Oluwole Oke, said with the population size of the country and the pressing economic needs of the country, the budge,t which is about $23 billion, was not enough.
He stated this on Thursday during a debate on the budget in the House. He explained that the ₦49.7 trillion budget was insufficient to boost the country’s economic prosperity.
“Mr. Speaker, I am going to speak legislatively because the submission of Mr. President is from the executive hand perspectives. Mr. Speaker, this budget is grossly inadequate. I say so because we need to address our minds to our status.
“It’s not enough. We are talking about 23 billion budget, which is just the cost of a project that links Nigeria to Senegal to Morocco, a pipeline. It’s just one item to procure a project.
“It is grossly inadequate. I say so, Mr. Speaker, when you consider section 18 of our Public Procurement Act 2007, we’d bothered on needs,” Oke said.
Naija News reported that Kwara Central Senator, Saliu Mustapha, also condemned the amount allocated to defence to the detriment of agriculture.
Senator Mustapha stated that neglect of food security would affect the country’s economy.
