Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated N50 million to the family of Lt Col O.C. Okolo, who was killed in a Boko Haram attack on Mandaragirau community in Biu Local Council on February 16, 2026.
The donation was presented on April 10, 2026, at the officer’s funeral in Obinofia-Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local Council of Enugu State. Zulum was represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Brig-Gen Abdullahi Ishaq (rtd).
The governor said the gesture formed part of ongoing support for families of military personnel who lost their lives in counter-insurgency operations. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting officers and soldiers defending the country’s territorial integrity.
He also stated that visits to families of personnel killed or declared missing in action in operations across Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region would continue.
Zulum extended condolences to the bereaved family, describing the late officer as dedicated and committed, and prayed for strength for his relatives.
A family representative, Stanley Okolo, expressed appreciation for the support, noting the donation and the presence of the government delegation at the funeral.
The event was attended by representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, including Brig Gen G.A. Suru, and the Task Force Commander, 25 Brigade, Brig Gen I.P. Omoke, who represented the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, alongside members of NAOWA and the host community.
