In a recent interview on TVC News, Dominic Alancha, Chairman of the Northern Ethnic Nationalities Forum, spoke during a live discussion where he reflected on the records of past political office holders and their roles in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the interview, Alancha stated, “We saw him as the Governor of Osun State; he was a minister for almost 8 years.” He used the statement to highlight the extensive public service record of Rauf Aregbesola, who previously served as Governor of Osun State and later as a federal minister.
He referenced Aregbesola’s years in office to stress the importance of accountability and continuity in leadership, noting that individuals who have held significant positions over time should be evaluated based on their performance and contributions.
Alancha argued that such long tenures in public office come with expectations from Nigerians, especially when those individuals remain active in political discussions and opposition movements.
He explained that the current political environment requires leaders to demonstrate not only experience but also a clear record of impact, particularly as voters become more discerning ahead of the next election cycle.
The forum chairman also linked his remarks to the broader conversation about governance, emphasizing that past leadership roles should serve as a benchmark for assessing future ambitions.
Alancha further stated that Nigerians are increasingly paying attention to the track records of political actors, rather than just their present political alignments or rhetoric.
He concluded by urging political stakeholders to focus on constructive engagement and policy-driven discourse, noting that credible leadership will be a key factor in shaping the outcome of the 2027 elections.
