2027 ELECTIONS: Why Many Senators and Reps May Lose Their Seats — Senator Ningi

According to a report by The Nigerian Tribune on Friday, April 24, 2026, Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, has warned that the non-implementation of the 2024 and 2025 federal budgets is placing the re-election chances of many National Assembly members at risk.

According to the lawmaker, the inability to execute constituency projects has left many representatives and senators with few achievements to present to their voters as the 2027 election cycle approaches.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Senator Ningi expressed frustration over the current administration’s fiscal management.

He noted that unlike previous administrations where budget implementation was relatively successful, the current lack of fund disbursement has hindered legislative performance at the grassroots level.

“We cannot go back to our constituencies because we have not been able to deliver due to non-disbursement of funds, and it means that our re-election is threatened,” Ningi explained.

He pointed out that while the federal government is prioritizing massive legacy projects, this approach has sidelined localized developments that typically define a legislator’s tenure.

Furthermore, the senator highlighted that federal funding has been disproportionately channeled toward state governors rather than legislative constituency projects.

This leaves lawmakers in a precarious position where they cannot claim credit for state-funded initiatives, nor can they showcase completed federal projects in their home districts.

Ningi emphasized that without a significant change in how budgets are implemented, many serving members of the Senate and House of Representatives may face rejection by their constituents in 2027.

He believes that the lack of tangible developmental impact on the ground will be the deciding factor for voters during the next general election.
