According to report by Vanguard on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has confirmed that all governorship aspirants seeking to contest in the party’s primary election have been cleared to participate.
The clarification was made following rumours that a former Minister of Power and one of the leading contenders, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, had allegedly been disqualified from the race ahead of the gubernatorial primary scheduled for Thursday.
Speaking with journalists at the APC Secretariat located in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the Chairman of the APC House of Assembly and Governorship Primaries Election Committee in Oyo State, Taofeek Olawale Abdulsalam, dismissed the speculation as false.
He assured party members and supporters that every aspirant who completed the required registration process remained qualified for the contest.
Abdulsalam, who previously served as Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, expressed confidence in the preparations already put in place for the exercise.
According to him, the committee had monitored activities since arriving in the state and was satisfied with the level of organisation ahead of the primaries.
He added that the exercise would be peaceful, transparent and beneficial to members of the party across the state.
He further explained that the election committee was only responsible for supervising the conduct of the primaries and collating the results.
According to him, the committee would not announce the final outcome, as all results would be forwarded to the APC national headquarters for official declaration.
Abdulsalam also revealed that a separate monitoring committee had been constituted to ensure fairness and credibility during the process.
Similarly, the Chairman of the APC Primaries Election Monitoring Committee, Ayo Afolabi, assured party members that adequate monitoring mechanisms had been established to guarantee a free, fair and transparent governorship primary election in Oyo State.
