BREAKING: A senator phoned me to say that the president says they should tell me that I should withdraw—Shittu

Barrister Adebayo Shittu, a former Federal Minister of Communications, Oyo APC chieftain, and 47-year political veteran, has opened up about how he was misled into stepping back from the Oyo State governorship race, only to later discover the message he received was a lie.

Speaking during a Naija Unfiltered interview on SYMFONI, Shittu alleged that party leaders pushed a particular governorship aspirant as the presidentially anointed candidate. “A senator phoned me to say that the president says they should tell me that I should withdraw, I was deceived, unfortunately but I can’t imagine myself after having paid 50 million for somebody to tell me another person has been anointed” he said.

Despite the betrayal, Shittu said he found one reason to be thankful, he had not lost ₦50 million in the process.

Shittu further alleged that subsequent investigations showed President Tinubu was never directly involved in endorsing any candidate, pointing the finger at individuals within the party who he said fabricated the so-called anointing to serve their own interests.
