BREAKING: We also expect the NA to amend the Constitution to allow the creation of State police–Tinubu

According to a report by The Sun on Sunday, May 24, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that his administration will remain committed to confronting insecurity in every part of the country, stressing that the protection of lives and property will continue to receive top attention from the Federal Government.

He made the remark on Sunday in Abuja while speaking during his acceptance speech after emerging as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election.

In the address, Tinubu restated his government’s resolve to intensify action on security-related concerns affecting the nation.

The president noted that insecurity is still a serious challenge in several parts of Nigeria, but he assured Nigerians that efforts are being stepped up to address the problem.

He said the administration will not slow down in its commitment to improving safety and restoring confidence in communities affected by violence and criminal activity.

According to him, the issue of insecurity requires sustained attention and coordinated measures at the highest levels of government.

He maintained that his administration is determined to strengthen the capacity of security agencies and support broader measures aimed at stabilising troubled areas across the country.

Tinubu also called on the National Assembly to take steps that would make it possible for state police to be created through constitutional amendment.

He described the matter as urgent and said it should be handled as a national emergency in view of the security situation facing the country.

He linked the proposed constitutional change to the wider effort to deepen security management across Nigeria, arguing that the structure of policing must reflect present realities.

The president’s comments came as part of a broader message on governance, national stability, and the need for stronger institutional support in addressing insecurity.

“We also expect the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to allow the creation of State police as a matter of national emergency,” he stated.
