According to a report by The Sun on Thursday, July 9, 2026, after a number of contentious rulings in the 2026 World Cup’s knockout stages, FIFA announced a major overhaul to its VAR system for the rest of the tournament.
Instead of working out of FIFA’s main Video Operation Room in Dallas, Texas, officials will now be stationed inside the stadium for all remaining matches, according to the new arrangement.
This change comes in response to several controversial situations that occurred during the Round of 16 and caused many to question the call. There was no proof shown to back the claims made by certain supporters on social media who said the competition was being rigged.
The quarterfinal match between France and Morocco in Boston will mark the debut of the new system. The modifications include stationing a backup VAR official at the stadium in addition to the main VAR official to bolster security in the event of technological difficulties..Click to Continue/Video>>
