Strategic Media Associate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Shola Sanni, has claimed that Atiku voluntarily waived the protection of his office while serving as Nigeria’s Vice President to allow an investigation into allegations against him.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, 24 July, 2026, Sanni argued that the former vice president did not obstruct investigations while in office. Instead, he said Atiku encouraged a full probe into the allegations against him, adding that the investigation was conducted by a team that included the current National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
