State Commandant of NSCDC, Matthew Ovye, oversaw the formal handover of Chinonso Kalu, who was re-arrested by NSCDC operatives at Hero Square, Owerri, on June 6. Kalu was intercepted while attempting to flee after allegedly robbing pedestrians of their belongings.
Investigations revealed that Kalu had escaped during the infamous April 5, 2021 jailbreak in Owerri. “We’re, therefore, handing him over to the NCoS for reabsorption in the facility and other necessary actions,”
Ovye stated during the handover ceremony.
Inspector of Corrections, Casmir Obiozor, accepted Kalu on behalf of NCoS, noting that the escapee would undergo formal documentation before further legal proceedings.
Alongside Kalu, NSCDC also presented another suspect, 31-year-old Israel Akinregbide, who was apprehended on May 12 for trespassing at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government premises.
Ovye affirmed that Akinregbide would face due process under the law. He commended the cooperative efforts of other security agencies in Imo State and reiterated NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring public safety.
The state Commandant extended gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodinma for his continuous support and advised residents to avoid solitary outings late at night to mitigate risks of criminal encounters.>>>CONTINUE FULL READING HERE
