The empowerment followed a three-week skills acquisition training and empowerment programme by the ministry in collaboration with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB).
She said the training marks the beginning of new opportunities for the beneficiaries, adding that irrespective of the skills learned, beneficiaries were given comprehensive entrepreneurial skills, among others.
In another development, a forex broker, ForexTime (FXTM), in collaboration with Karis and Eleos Hand of Hope Foundation (KEF), has donated free school bags as well as some educational materials to support students at both primary and secondary levels as they begin the new academijc session.
The charitable initiative took place, at the weekend, at the Bright Achievers School in Bariga, Lagos, where over 500 less-privileged students benefited from the programme.
In addition, their parents were also provided with household items, such as free clothes, sanitary pads, shoes and foodstuff, to help them cushion the effect of the current harsh economic challenges.
Programme Manager at the Foundation, ChikezieEkechukwu, who spoke at the event, stressed that the project was designed to assist the students who are in dire need of support to enable them to pursue their educational aspirations.
He said that the selection of the slum school for the distribution of educational materials was particularly fitting, given the numerous challenges faced by the students of the school.
In her remarks, the Education Coordinator at FXTM Lagos Office, AdaezeUzochukwu, expressed that the firm is interested in creating a better future for Nigerian youths by empowering them with the necessary tools and resources to succeed in their educational endeavours.
Meanwhile, the Proprietor of the school, Seun Awobajo, who expressed appreciation to the organisers of the initiative for their support to the less-privileged students, urged well-to-do individuals in the society to get involved in charitable endeavours.
