Almajiris: I Want To See Them Learning Quran Alongside English, Mathematics, Physics, Everything-Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for stronger investment in quality education across Northern Nigeria, with particular focus on children in Almajiri learning systems. Speaking during an interview on Advocacy for Good Governance on Monday, May 11, 2026, Obi stressed the urgent need to expand access to structured schooling in the region, noting that education remains a key driver of national development and poverty reduction.

He explained that while many children enrolled in Almajiri schools receive foundational Islamic instruction, there is also a growing need to integrate formal academic subjects into their learning experience.  According to him, combining religious education with modern academic disciplines would equip children with broader knowledge and skills needed to compete in today’s world..CONTINUE FULL READING>>>
