Edo State Deputy Governor, Denis Idahosa’s, seat in the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, was declared vacant by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.
Idahosa, who represented Ovia Federal constituency in the House, was elected deputy governor of Edo State in the September 21 governorship election and inaugurated on November 12.
After reading Idahosa’s letter on the floor, House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, asked the House to declare the seat vacant to know the commencement of the process of electing a replacement for him to represent the people of Ovia.
Meanwhile, the House during plenary called for investigations into smuggling allegations against Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) by Fisayo Soyombo.
According to Arise TV National Assembly correspondent, Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie, the motion was moved by Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, who represents Badagry Constituency.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, Whingan, noted that farmers can’t compete with smugglers, stressing the adverse effect of smuggling on the nation’s economy.
Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, Member Representing Ndokwa East and West/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, stated that the viral videos of smuggling from Soyombo deserve investigation.
According to Adeswua, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, Nnamdi, has also called on the “Nigerians Customs Service to apologize to Nigerians due to the viral video of brutalized whistleblowers”.
