The Adamawa State Police Command has debunked reports claiming that armed robbers attacked the convoy of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in the neighbouring Taraba State.
Speaking via a statement on Thursday, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Moris Danwambo, described the social media report about the attack as misleading and totally false.
Danwambo explained that on December 19, the advance security vehicle in the convoy of the Adamawa State governor, returning from Taraba State, encountered a roadblock mounted by robbers.
He noted that the advance vehicle was ahead of the convoy as part of its standard operational procedures for VIP movements.
Upon reaching the scene, the roadblock forced other commuters to discontinue their journey, with vehicles parked along the road.
The advance security team of the governor, comprising gallant officers, promptly responded by chasing the armed robbers away, clearing the road and ensuring the safe continuation of movement for all motorists.
On the strength of the gallant act, the Commissioner of Police commended the officers for being proactive and appealed to social media handlers to always verify their facts before going public.
The Police Command equally thanked journalists both within and outside the State for their contributions and support, especially in sensitising and educating public members in peace-keeping.
