Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has weighed in on some intriguing Premier League fixtures slated for this weekend, offering his insights on the matchups as excitement builds among fans.
The highlight of the weekend will undoubtedly be the Premier League showdown at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City will clash with their fierce rivals, Manchester United. This match promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams eager to assert their dominance.
On Saturday, Arsenal will welcome Everton to the Emirates Stadium, looking to build on their recent Champions League victory. Shearer notes that after a disappointing result in the league last weekend, Arsenal will be motivated to secure all three points.
“Arsenal vs Everton – Arsenal is playing on their home turf, and they come off a significant win in midweek. They’ll need to shake off last weekend’s result, and facing Everton, who have struggled lately, will likely be a challenging outing for them,” he said. He predicted a solid home win for Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Manchester City will take on Manchester United in what is always an electrifying Manchester derby. Shearer believes that the home advantage could play a crucial role.
“Man City vs Man Utd – Given City’s strong performances at home, I anticipate a victory for them. They will be looking to capitalize on their local rivalry, and I think the momentum they have will be key,” he stated.
In West London, Chelsea will host Brentford at Stamford Bridge. Despite the proximity, Shearer thinks that the form Chelsea is currently exhibiting will give them the upper hand.
“Chelsea vs Brentford – Chelsea is facing a challenging situation, but I firmly believe they will come out on top in this match. Brentford has the added pressure of an away game, and it will be difficult for them,” he remarked, forecasting a victory for Chelsea.
Lastly, Tottenham will make the trip to St. Mary’s to take on Southampton, who currently sit at the bottom of the league. Shearer suggests that Spurs will be looking to capitalize on their opponent’s struggles to turn their season around. Hence, he sees a straight win for Spurs.
