Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi said he aspires to transform the 2024-2025 season into his most impressive Premier League campaign ever, building on a promising start to the season with Fulham.
Alex Iwobi, 28, has already established himself as a key figure for the club, as he currently stands as Fulham’s joint-top scorer, netting five goals in the Premier League this season—a feat that matches his entire goal tally from the previous season.
Iwobi attributes his thriving form to the sense of freedom and creativity afforded to him by Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva.
“You could say it is my best start to the season—I just have to keep it going and make sure it’s my best season. That’s the aim,” Iwobi stated.
Recalling his childhood inspirations, the former Arsenal star revealed that he grew up idolizing two immensely influential footballers: his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha and the legendary Ronaldinho.
Iwobi believes that the approach of playing with freedom has been instrumental in his growth as a player. “Those two were my favourite players to watch growing up,” Iwobi shared. “It showed me that just being yourself, being who you are, you get accepted.”
Iwobi’s impressive performances this season have been significantly shaped by Silva’s managerial style. The Portuguese coach has fostered an environment where players are encouraged to express themselves both on and off the pitch, which Iwobi finds motivating.
“If I do make a mistake, I can go again,” Iwobi explained, emphasizing the importance of resilience in his game.
“It’s nice to have a manager who gives you the confidence to do that. Players normally do well when they are confident, and with me, feeling confident to express favorite all aspects, I almost feel unstoppable,” he added.
Looking ahead, Alex Iwobi is optimistic about Fulham’s potential to contend with the Premier League’s elite teams, especially following their respectable draw with Arsenal.
Currently positioned 10th in the league, Fulham’s upcoming challenge is an away match against Liverpool at Anfield, where Iwobi is determined to secure a positive result. “We are going there to get a result,” he insisted.
“You never know in the Premier League—in any game, anything can happen. Even though they are at the top of the league, we want to get the desired result.”
