AOSA President Counsels Outgoing Ajuwa Students To Acquire Vocational Skills

The advice was given by the National President of the Ajuwa Old Students’ Association (AOSA), Mr Adekoya Olisa, during the Graduation/Induction Ceremony (Class 24) of the school, as the bade farewell to the school and their teachers following the completion of their Senior Secondary School (SS 3) education.

Olisa in his speech, titled: “Navigating Life Beyond SS 3: Market Survey, Survival, and the Imperative of Vocational Skills,” read on his behalf by the National Secretary of the association, Mr Tayo Ajakaye, reminded them that in today’s Nigeria, the economic landscape demands adaptability, resilience and a willingness to acquire vocational skills.

“As you, dear graduating students of Ajuwa Grammar School, stand on the threshold of this new chapter in your lives, I am honored to share some words of encouragement and guidance,” he said.

He described the completion of their SS 3, which is climaxed with the Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) conducted by WAEC and NECO as a significant milestone in their educational life, but it is crucial for them to recognise that education extends far beyond the confines of secondary school.

Olisa, therefore, added: “In today’s Nigeria, the economic landscape demands adaptability, resilience, and a willingness to acquire vocational skills. Our Late Principal Emeritus, Guy Garguilo, has long emphasised the importance of practical skills in complementing academic knowledge. Embracing this approach will empower you to navigate the complexities of the modern workforce.”

According to him, as the outgoing students complete their secondary school education and venture into the market, there is the urgent need for them to consider exploring vocations that would complement their education.

Olisa listed some of such skills to include photography and digital media, graphic design and visual arts, modern agriculture (poultry, fishery, and livestock), ceramic design and pottery, fabric production and textile design, tailoring and fashion design, web design and development, among others.
