The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the plan of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to form an alliance against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 will be unsuccessful.
Naija News reported that Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, in an interview on Channels Television, said his principal and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, had learnt their lessons from the last general elections and would unite to overthrow the APC’s incompetent and clueless administration.
According to him, the combined votes of Peter Obi and Atiku, which would have amounted to 12 million, should have been enough to stop President Tinubu and prevent the hardship inflicted on Nigerians.
However, in an interview with Punch, the National Publicity Director of APC, Bala Ibrahim, laughed at the idea of the two opposition leaders to stop Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, describing it as a ‘dream gone wrong.’
Ibrahim stated that no potential from the opposition, enmeshed in crisis, can seriously threaten the ruling party.
He said, “It is a dream gone wrong. All over the world, you don’t add up the total votes in an election and hope to use it to topple the votes of the winner. No! You don’t do that. A smart winner always capitalises on that to create a crack within the opposition. This is because each candidate is aspiring to win.”
