A former gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Segun Sowunmi, has expressed uncertainty about plans of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Naija News reports that Sowunmi made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

The PDP chieftain said he has asked Atiku twice about his ambition to run again, but has not received any response.

He said, “Atiku Abubakar is one man I love with my bones. He has not said no or yes, and I respect him. Any sensible person will know that the burden of an election is heavy. I have asked him twice, are you running or are you done? He was quiet and did not answer, he was still in a reflective mood. If he answers, good, and whatever answer he gives, we will take it to the next level.”

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, Ismael Ahmed, has stated that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu would have easily lost the 2023 presidential election if the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had united in the election.

Naija News reports that Ahmed made this known in an interview on the Mic On, podcast with Nigerian journalist, Seun Okinbaloye.

This comes amidst speculation about Peter Obi and Atiku forming a strong political party through a coalition to defeat President Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Asked if he is concerned about a possible opposition alliance, Ahmed responded in the affirmative, stating that God forbid the two opposition leaders come together in 2027.

According to the APC chieftain, he does not take potential threats as a joke, adding that the ruling party could lose the 2027 election if Atiku and Obi unite.
