The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced its dissatisfaction with the repeated delays of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, as announced by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the BoT, expressed the board’s concerns during the opening of an emergency meeting at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

Naija News recalls that the NWC had recently declared the third consecutive postponement of the NEC meeting, with the latest delay impacting a session originally set for November 28, 2024.

Wabara criticized the leadership of the NWC, headed by Amb. Umar Damagum, for eroding party members’ trust and confidence through these persistent delays.

He stressed that the repeated postponements were weakening the unity and democratic processes that are vital to the party’s success.

Wabara said: “I welcome you all to this emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees. It is an honor to address this esteemed gathering, whose commitment to our party’s values and principles remains unwavering.

“Today, we convene under challenging self-inflicted circumstances, compelled by our collective concern for the current state of our great party.

“As custodians of the PDP’s conscience and legacy, it is our responsibility to uphold the integrity of this institution and ensure that it continues to serve as a beacon of hope for our democracy and good governance.

“It is with a deep sense of disappointment that I must express the Board’s dismay at the continued shifting by the National Working Committee (NWC) in convening a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

“This delay not only undermines the trust and confidence of our members but also weakens the unity and democratic processes that are the foundation of our party.”

Wabara also called on the NWC to ensure that the NEC meeting takes place as scheduled next February, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling commitments to the party’s members.

The BoT Chairman went on to address the broader economic challenges facing Nigerians, particularly under the leadership of President Tinubu.

He criticized the administration’s economic policies, which he believes have worsened the hardships faced by many citizens, pushing millions deeper into poverty.

The harsh economic policies of the Tinubu Administration have exacerbated the suffering of Nigerians. The poorly implemented economic reforms have pushed millions into deeper poverty. Our party must rise to this occasion by offering credible alternatives and amplifying the voices of the suffering masses,” Wabara lamented.

Turning to internal party matters, Wabara urged PDP governors to prioritize unity and collaboration over personal ambitions.

He reiterated that the strength of the PDP lies in collective effort, especially among its governors, whose cooperation is essential for the party’s success at the state level.

The strength of our party lies in our collective resolve, not in individual pursuits. We cannot afford to let personal ambitions or differences overshadow our shared vision for a better Nigeria. Our governors are the bedrock of the PDP’s successes across states, and their synergy is vital for our collective progress,” he emphasized.

The BoT reaffirmed its commitment to internal reconciliation, including efforts to engage former Governor Nyesom Wike in fostering lasting peace within the party.

Wabara also used the occasion to extend Christmas wishes, calling for a renewed sense of unity and dedication to the PDP’s future.

This is a time of hope, reflection, and renewal. Let us use this season to rekindle the values of love, unity, and sacrifice that Christmas embodies. May the joy of this season inspire us to work harder for a better Nigeria and a stronger PDP,” Wabara concluded.
