According to Lawan, Okonkwo, visiting from Mubi, lured her into believing she would enroll Friday in a school, only to sell him instead due to economic hardships. The child was trafficked to Enugu by Efunaya Nabufe, the buyer.
“I used the proceeds to buy a grinding machine for business and gave my boyfriend N200,000 for our traditional wedding,”
Okonkwo confessed.
Lawan expressed disbelief and anguish over her daughter’s betrayal, narrating how she was deceived into believing Friday was attending school. Her suspicions arose when Okonkwo failed to allow her to speak with the child over the past year.
The situation escalated when Okonkwo’s father, upon learning of her marriage plans, demanded to know Friday’s whereabouts. Initially claiming the child was dead, Okonkwo later admitted the truth under pressure.
Adamawa State Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrests of Okonkwo and Nabufe following Lawan’s report. “The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation,”
Nguroje stated. “All suspects will be charged accordingly.”
The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice in both Adamawa and Borno States, highlighting the need for stringent measures against child trafficking and exploitation.>>>CONTINUE FULL READING HERE
