The attack happened when the Commissioner alongside officials from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, were clearing the area of debris when they came under attack.
Vehicles belonging to the state government were vandalised while some members of the commissioner’s team also sustained injuries during the attack.
Reasons for the attack was not immediately known but some of the attackers who were mainly traders were shouting for palliatives in face of hunger in the city.
The injured officials have been taken to hospital for treatment.
