His transfer was reported by Russian news outlet RIA Novosti and French news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), which both noted that his original imprisonment period was almost up.

His court appearance is intended to allow him to be subjected to a first interrogation and, based on the investigating judge’s findings, may face charges.

Durov’s custody was prolonged until August 28 to allow French officials to interrogate him about several grave accusations that had been leveled against him.

In a related development, Paris prosecutors report that Durov is currently the subject of an official investigation in France as part of an investigation into organized crime on the messaging app.

According to a statement released by Paris prosecutors on Wednesday, Mr. Durov has been placed under formal investigation for a number of alleged offenses, including refusing to cooperate with law enforcement, facilitating the illegal activities of an organized gang on an internet platform, and participating in the organized criminal distribution of child sex photos.
