The former national Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) emphasized that Obi’s significant momentum in the 2023 polls was largely due to the platform provided by the LP. Therefore, it would be ungrateful for him to abandon the party without reciprocating the support he received.

Umeh’s comments come amidst speculation that Obi is under pressure to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he might be given the ticket to contest against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with the full backing of PDP forces.

However, Umeh believes that Obi would rather focus on building and strengthening the LP ahead of the 2027 elections than abandon the party.

“Peter Obi is a man of integrity, and I believe he will not abandon the party that gave him the platform to become a household name,” Umeh added. “Instead, he will work towards making the LP more formidable and competitive in the future.”
