Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki, alongside leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and other Christian organizations, have commenced the second phase of the Christian Feeding Programme (CFP). Governor Obaseki initiated the distribution in the Edo South Senatorial District, inspecting a warehouse at the Diocese of Benin Anglican Communion in Benin City. CAN Chairman Apostle Irekpono Omoike provided a detailed breakdown of the distribution plan:

Edo South: 21,875 bags
Edo Central: 15,625 bags
Edo North: 18,750 bags

Governor Obaseki expressed gratitude to Christian leaders for their dedication to the programme, emphasizing that it is managed independently of political influence. He urged the Federal Government to emulate Edo State’s transparent and effective approach, which has already benefited over 50,000 families.

“If things are done properly in this country, the resources of the nation will go a long way to serve the people,” Obaseki said. “We know there are challenges but the current leadership is not helping Nigerians. Look at how this programme has been run successfully and transparently. The Federal Government should come learn from Edo State.”

Governor Obaseki highlighted the transparency, honesty, and public service commitment that underpin the CFP’s success. He advised citizens to avoid actions that could exacerbate current challenges and announced that the third phase of the programme would include enrollment in conditional cash transfers, skill development programmes, and support for agriculture, trade, and micro-finance initiatives.

CAN Chairman Apostle Irekpono Omoike commended the governor for his proactive measures to alleviate the hardships caused by the subsidy removal. He acknowledged the comprehensive nature of the governor’s palliative efforts, of which the CFP is a significant component.
