The command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, shared details of the raid in a statement released on Monday, September 2, 2024. According to the statement, the incident began when the suspects attacked a resident of Rogo Local Government Area in Kano, beat him into a coma, and kidnapped his 20-year-old daughter.

SP Kiyawa explained that the kidnappers took the young woman to the forest in Kaduna and demanded a ransom of N30 million for her release. The police received a report of the kidnapping from a resident of Zarewa Village in Rogo LGA on July 18, 2024, at around 12:45 am, detailing the attack and abduction of the victim, Hafsat Nuhu.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police formed a team from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by SP Aliyu Muhammad Auwal, with the directive to rescue the victim and apprehend the kidnappers. Acting swiftly, the team launched an operation.

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 4:30 am, the police operatives stormed the kidnappers’ den in the forest at Gubuchi village. They successfully rescued Hafsat Nuhu after she had been held captive for 37 days. Another victim, Alhaji Badaru Adamu, a 65-year-old from Mahuta Village in Kubau LGA, Kaduna, was also rescued during the operation.

The two suspects, identified as Yakubu Abubakar, 40, and Ali Noti, 50, were arrested at the scene. The case is currently under investigation.
