Chadian authorities have apprehended dozens of security personnel suspected of colluding with factions of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) in a scheme aimed at facilitating attacks on defensive installations in Baggara, Lac Province. This alarming development was disclosed during a press briefing on November 15, 2024, where interrogation videos of the detained suspects were made public.
The arrests are part of a significant operation dubbed “Haskinate,” which aims to root out internal threats and enhance national security amid increasing instability in the region. The videos revealed a diverse group of detainees, notably including an individual from the Guran ethnic group. Historically, the Guran have voiced opposition to the late President Idriss Déby and his government, predominantly led by the rival Zaghawa tribe, now under the leadership of President Mahamat Idriss Déby.
Does not follow the Quran properly” and expressed his aspiration for “Shahada” (martyrdom) as part of his faith
During the interrogations, chilling statements were made by one suspect who professed allegiance to Boko Haram and espoused extremist ideals. He declared that despite their political dominance, the Zaghawa tribe “does not follow the Quran properly” and expressed his aspiration for “Shahada” (martyrdom) as part of his faith. He further asserted that “power belongs to Allah and Muslims,” while denigrating the Sara ethnic group, which is predominantly Christian, as lacking a legitimate role in Chad’s political landscape.
In connection with potential jihadist networks, the detainee claimed a global network of supporters, naming countries such as Saudi Arabia, Palestine, and Chad as bases for sympathizers. He fervently urged Chadian Muslims to rise against what he deemed “unbelievers,” though he clarified that he did not advocate for direct warfare, but rather for “fighting” within a religious context.
Despite the gravity of the detainee’s claims and his challenges to state authority, troops involved in the operation reportedly assured him that he would not face execution.
These arrests underscore growing apprehension regarding the infiltration of extremist ideologies within the ranks of Chad’s security personnel, particularly in the Lac Province, a region that has been rife with cross-border militant activity and insurgent challenges. As Chad continues to grapple with security threats, the government’s decisive action against suspicious elements within its own forces signals a critical effort to safeguard national integrity and counter radicalization.

Authorities have called for vigilance as they work to restore stability in the volatile region, urging citizens to remain informed about insurgent threats and collaborative efforts to combat extremism.
