Adeleye expressed concern over the activities of some orphanage owners, emphasizing that the state would not tolerate any involvement in illegal adoption, child trafficking, or the mistreatment of children under their care.

Adeleye stated. She stressed that orphanages should operate with compassion and prioritize the empowerment and well-being of vulnerable children.

The commissioner also highlighted the government’s efforts to improve data collection to ensure accurate documentation of the children in orphanages. ” The revocation of these provisional licenses is part of our broader initiative to maintain the integrity of orphanage services and protect the vulnerable children in our state,”

Adeleye further explained that while 20 orphanages had their provisional licenses withdrawn, not all were involved in serious infractions. However, the government intends to conduct thorough investigations to ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines. Affected orphanages have been advised to reapply after a month, while those with permanent licenses have been given additional guidelines to maintain standards.
