The 2023 presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has criticized Southern leaders for their lack of support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. The political crisis in the major oil-producing state has led to the formation of two rival House of Assembly factions, one loyal to Wike and the other to Fubara. The situation escalated further on Wednesday when a Federal High Court issued an order stopping federal allocations to the Rivers State Government.

Reacting to these developments in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Momodu, who hails from Edo State, expressed disappointment over the silence of South-South leaders regarding the crisis.

Momodu contrasted this silence with the recent action of northern leaders, who he said had rallied to successfully press President Bola Tinubu’s administration to withdraw a proposed tax reform bill deemed unfavourable.

He said : “The silence of South South political leaders concerning the ongoing madness in RIVERS STATE is truly embarrassing. Give it to Northerners, whatever affects one affects all. Last week, they jettisoned political and religious differences to stand up stoutly against a proposed tax bill that they considered inimical to their common interests.

” Pronto, President Bola Tinubu and his team beat a retreat. Our own Southern leaders are treating GOVERNOR SIM FUBARA like an orphan, while studiously forgetting that their own turn will come if the Federal Government gets away with this rascality… It is only a matter of time!!”
