The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that the national grid experienced a disturbance at approximately 11:29 am today due to a sudden frequency spike.

According to TCN, recovery efforts began immediately, with the Abuja Axis restored within 28 minutes. However, recovery is still ongoing for other affected areas.

The frequency spike was caused by issues at one of TCN’s substations, which was shut down to prevent further complications. Additionally, TCN is conducting significant repair work on critical transmission lines and substations, including:

1. 330kV transmission lines along the Shiroro-Mando axis
2. Upgrades at the Jebba Transmission Substation
3. Restoration of the second Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV transmission line

TCN has also begun addressing weaknesses in the transmission system identified in the investigative report on previous grid collapses.

We acknowledge the impact of these disruptions and ask for the understanding and patience of the public during this challenging period

“We acknowledge the impact of these disruptions and ask for the understanding and patience of the public during this challenging period. We remain committed to improving the reliability of electricity supply, recognizing its vital role in Nigeria’s socio-economic development, the statement partly read.

TCN assures that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the grid’s long-term stability, addressing infrastructure damage, and implementing recommendations from the investigative committee.
