However, the convoy was not carrying polio vaccines as initially thought, but was instead transporting UN personnel.

Despite prior coordination, the convoy was stopped at gunpoint, and bulldozers damaged the UN armored vehicles.

Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UNWRA, expressed concern about the incident, stating that it was the latest in a series of violations against UN staff, including shootings and arrests at checkpoints.

The convoy was carrying national and international staff members tasked with rolling out a polio vaccination campaign for children in Gaza City and northern Gaza.
