Some of us might know the English names of some of these foods though, but I guess we used to the local names and probably if we tell the sellers of these foods or drinks the English name, he/she might not know what we are referring to.
1. GARRI

Garri is said to be one of the most eaten food in Nigeria and I believe that over 95% of Nigerians have drank this before like one, two or even more times. Meanwhile, the English name for garri is “cassava granules” some people also call it “cassava flakes” either of the two, you’re correct.
2. ZOBO

This particular drink is also known by many but many of us usually call it Zobo which isn’t the English name. A lot of kids really love it and same thing goes to adult, it’s cheap and very sweet. However, the English name for Zobo as well all called it is “hibiscus tea” or “Roselle plant tea”. Sounds strange huh? Yeah its because we aren’t used to that name.

Kuli-kuli is one of the foods we consumed that many actually don’t know the English name. It’s not a big deal though, there’s a saying which reads; ‘what we don’t know is bigger than us’. That’s true, what we don’t know, we don’t know it that’s all. But Kuli-kuli also has it’s own English name, and the English name for Kuli-kuli is “peanut bars”.

Actually suya is another awesome delicacy food loved by virtually everyone. It’s yummy taste is second to none. But do you know that Suya isn’t the English name for it rather than beef kebab” or “beef satay”.

Popularly referred to as kunuzaki this drink is loved by lots of people in Nigeria, with great health benefits it has come to stay in the country. However, the English name for this drink is “gruel” and this is a literal meaning.

Most synonymous with the northern part of Nigeria, the delicacy known as Zogale has come to stay. It is a leaf that is boiled and eaten and it comes with a lot of medicinal benefits. However, the English name for it is “Moringa”.
8. PURE WATER

Many of us are on this table, we are fond of saying pure water which isn’t the right word. Well, the real name for it is “sachet water”, which is synonymous to its container.
9.AADUN(ADUN).

This might be the first time you’re hearing this name but it’s very common among the Yoruba people. It is a popular snack eaten in the western part of the country and the English name is “roasted corn flour”.
10. EWEDU

This is another well known soup a lot of people referred to as Ewedu. It’s the green slimy soup obtained from cooking the leaves. However, Ewedu as we all know it isn’t the English name but the English name of this plant is jute mallow.
