Former Director General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, Osita Okechukwu, has said leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be thankful to God to have escaped being probed by successive All Progressives Congress (APC) administrations.
Naija News reports that Okechukwu, a chieftain of the APC, made the remark while reacting to PDP’s quit notice to the APC after an opposition party won Ghana’s presidential election.
PDP spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, said that Nigerians will end APC’s oppressive rule and return Nigeria to the path of good governance, security, political stability and economic prosperity on the platform of the PDP in 2027.
Responding, Okechukwu, in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday, said the PDP should thank God that the former President, Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu, out of sheer statesmanship, refused to probe the planlessness and squandermania of sixteen locust years of the opposition party.
According to him, the country experienced corruption, blatant rigging of elections, conscienceless sale of legislative and ministerial quarters, trust deficit, among other impunity.
He said, “Corruption which governed the privatisation of our electricity value chain, a key to industrialisation.
“Blatant rigging of 2007 general elections which the foremost beneficiary, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua out of good conscience and noble magnanimity publicly acknowledged the malfeasance which characterized his victory.
“Conscienceless sale of legislative and ministerial quarters, the rentage which annually is bleeding our treasury.
“The neglect of $23 billion Greenfield Refinery, which could have saved over $70 billion expended on importation of refined petroleum products and which simulated the economic hardship of today.”
Okechukwu recalled efforts made by the Buhari’s administration to reopen talks on the Greenfield Refinery which the Chinese regrettably rebuffed.
He added that the PDP should not insult the sensibility of Nigerians and assume the citizens are unware of the harm done in the country.
He added, “We cannot in a hurry forget the deliberate breach of the rotation convention of president from north to south, plus utter disregard of Section 7 of the PDP’s constitution which expressly mandates zoning.
“PDP should not insult the sensibility of Nigerians by assuming that we are morons who will easily forget how they put us in harm’s way.
“Rather they should thank Almighty God that Buhari and Tinubu did not want to probe them and that’s why Nigerians cannot decipher the difference between the two political parties.”
