“Lenin has been arrested by the DSS,” Adenola said. “He was picked up during a raid on his house around 2 am. He was arrested and tortured in front of his family. We are demanding his immediate and unconditional release.”

Attempts to contact DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

Lenin, who is the National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign, had recently expressed his disappointment with President Bola Tinubu’s recent speech.

During a press briefing, Lenin criticized the President’s speech, saying it showed a lack of understanding of the country’s situation.

“We are very sad and disappointed with the latest speech by President Tinubu, which is his first address to the nation about the #EndBadGovernance protests,” Lenin said.

“After more than three weeks since Nigerians started protesting and after many protesters have been killed and journalists attacked, the President’s speech was out of touch with reality.”

Lenin continued, “Many people asked the President to speak when the protests started and when they escalated.

Most of us did not expect that the President would only justify state violence against protesters and journalists while ignoring the protesters’ demands.

This, along with the failed attempt to use the language of the protests, shows how much President Tinubu is disconnected from the people.”

Despite his arrest, Lenin urged citizens to keep protesting. “We ask Nigerians to come out in large numbers to continue these protests on Monday until our demands are met. The violence and lies are just attempts to silence and control us, and the propaganda cannot fool us.”
