Ose Anenih, the Director of Strategy for Asue Ighodalo’s governorship campaign in Edo State, responded to comments made by Adams Oshiomhole. However, Anenih said that although he is an Edo man, he doesn’t speak the language of his village people in Edo, and his mother is Igbo. He questioned whether this makes him less qualified to run for office in Edo State. He highlighted the irony in Oshiomhole’s criticism by pointing out that Oshiomhole himself grew up in Kaduna and started his first job in Arewa Textiles in the 1970s. He also said that Monday Okpebholo, the APC candidate, grew up and established his company in Jos, while Akpata, the Labour Party candidate, practices his business in Lagos.

In Anenih’s words: “He (Adams Oshiomhole) came talking about Asue is a stranger and doesn’t speak the language. I don’t speak my language, I am an Edo man, my mother is Igbo. Does that make me any less qualified to run for office in Edo State? The irony of it is that Oshiomhole grew up in Kaduna, his first job was in Arewa textiles in 1974 or 1975, Monday Okpebholo grew up in Jos, he set up his company in Jos, Akpata practices his business in Lagos”….
