Manchester City’s midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has stressed that the Premier League side lost to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League because he and his teammates made series of wrong decisions.
Ilkay Gundogan, who played a prominent role in the Champions League match which ended in a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, said the loss was “very disappointing” and lamented over his team’s wasted opportunities to score.
“I believe we created several chances to find the back of the net; however, it seems like every time we go on the attack, we concede a dangerous counter at the other end. I truly don’t understand it,” he said.
Gundogan further elaborated on the team’s performance, admitting to a sense of carelessness in their duels and an inclination to overcomplicate simple plays.
“At times, I feel we invite unnecessary challenges and fail to maintain simplicity in our game,” he explained, as he reflected on the difficulty his team faced in maintaining their rhythm.
“In crucial moments, we consistently find ourselves making the wrong decisions, and that’s something we need to address moving forward.”
The defeat was particularly significant for Manchester City, leaving them in an alarming 22nd position in the league standings, well outside the automatic qualification spots for the next stage of the tournament.
The outcome raises urgent questions about the squad’s current form and their ability to regroup for the challenges ahead.
